For those unbiased fans like me, I spent most of the game on
Twitter. I didn’t want to know what all my friends and followers were up to, I wanted
to see what started to trend before kickoff, after the halftime show, or once
the winning team was declared.
Before the game, the highest trending topic around the world
was of course #SuperBowl. There was a promoted tweet by @Chevrolet at the top tweet
trying to get fans to make them a popular topic during the game.
If you follow up on the link, it goes to Chevy’s Facebook
page.
Celebrities also tweet how they are getting ready for the
big game. Katy Perry (@katyperry) uploaded a twitpic of this model of a football
arena made of food.
During Madonna’s halftime performance, many different things
were trending worldwide, such as: love m, #vogue, Janet Jackson and Justin
Timberlake, #madonna, Like a prayer, Cee-lo Green, and Nicki and MIA. The
conversation was growing at the performance developed. People were talking
about Super Bowl performances in the past and the one right before their eyes.
After the Giants won, the conversation skyrocketed. Everyone
was praising the Giants or mourning the loss of the Patriots.
Fans from around the world can bond together all
because of the hashtag for the Super Bowl. It was the top trending tweet for
over 24 hours.
Your use of actual tweets made this post much more interesting! During the Super Bowl, it was almost like you were watching the game with the entire Twitter community. It was fun to read people's reactions to different commercials, plays, and performances. The reaction to Madonna's half time performance was probably my favorite topic. People either loved her or hated her.
ReplyDeleteI know from a personal perspective, I was reading and Tweeting during the whole game. I loved seeing people's displays of food, their TV set ups, and other interesting Tweets and Twitpics from their Super Bowl gatherings.
What was even more entertaining was the aftermath of the game's results. Giants fans were ecstatic, and Patriots fans (and haters of the Giants) were pretty bummed out. Regardless of which side anyone was on, most people were pretty passionate about the game. If they were not passionate about the game, they were at least pretty interested in their nacho dips, beverage of choice, and people they were with!

ReplyDeleteit's the top entertaining tweets from the Superbowl 2012 from CNN.
I was interested in your post regarding the Super Bowl and the trending topics leading up to and during the game. A lot of my friends were in similar positions as you where they did not watch the game that often and were following the Twitter posts and trends more closely than the actual game. The Super Bowl Host Committee used social media in numerous ways during the week leading up to and during the game. Not only were they promoting trends on Twitter but also they were encouraging all Super Bowl fans to get on Twitter and follow the Super Bowl Host Committee for prizes, information and free food. There were business cards being handed out throughout Indianapolis with QR Codes to the Host Committee’s website containing valuable information for those staying for the big game. They did a great job at using social media to engage and interact with fans and hopefully it will be mocked at Super Bowl next year!
ReplyDeleteI for one was very annoyed when people I was with were constantly on social media sites during the Super Bowl. It seemed as if they needed to get information about the game from sites like twitter, rather than just observe the tv right in front of them. I like social media, but I wanted to watch the game as it was happening, and be fully involved in it. I knew I could always catch up on what was happening on social media after the game was over. For example, after Madonna's performance, I was very interested in seeing what everyone elses responses were. However, I waited until the game was over so that there was much more material to read, and I didn't miss anything during the game.
